Newsletter for the Week of September 19, 2016

September 23, 2016

Hello Families!
We have been so very busy learning these last two weeks! During Circle Time, the children are learning The Pledge of Allegiance and you would be so proud of their involvement, All children stand with their right hand over their heart and face the flag, those who are able are memorizing and reciting the words too! We count and label the days of the week, we predict color patterns in the numbers, discuss the weather, learn about the seasons, sing songs and participate in Total Physical Response (TPR) a kind of Simon Says set of stretches and identifying body parts.  The children love this whole group participation and interact enthusiastically with the directions given and with each other, all being totally present in the moment!

Other whole group activities include Books on CD, favorite stories vary from Dr. Seuss classics, Skippy John Jones, Curious George to Disney stories, again all children are attentive and engaged.  And Class PE where this week we have done The Hokey Pokey, Duck Duck Goose and Movements to Music as well as our M, W, F swimming after lunch!

We are also grouping children into small groups/pairs to work collaboratively on Language Arts and Math based on ability/skill levels.

These large and small groups provide the needed opportunities for your children to develop and strengthen communication and social skills and they are doing an amazing job! I am so proud of all of them!!!

This week, 9-26, we will be working on a unit connecting the season of fall with our language arts and math activities. Apples will be our theme, we will learn the parts of the apple and their names, do math problems, art and culminate the week with a cooking project!  I am very excited and looking forward to seeing the children experiment this week!(photos next weekend)
